Ok, this section covers a few of the situations that occur with our power window systems. Many customers request power window switches from us. Before we even sell any we ask what the windows are doing? If when the window switch is moved in up or down position and nothing is heard: does this happen when ANY of the window switches is moved or only one? If all of the switches (including the individual door switches) come back with the same "nothing" result you may have a faulty window safety relay. This is normally located under the hood on either the driver inner fender or on the firewall. On the earlier Continentals you have a "up" and "down" relay which will cause the window to go up/down but not the other way. Most of the time we can repair these relays. Please email us for info.
Now, if there is noise heard but the window does not move: either your regulator is binding from years of not being operated (in the case with many of us who buy a car that has been sitting) or the plastic gearwheel inside the window motor is stripped and is not allowing the mating metal wheel to catch and move the window. This is 90% of the time. We sell new window gears to fix this problem. If these solutions do not help you it may in fact be the window switches themselves, which are also known to go bad from years of use. We rebuild window switches at $35 each to make them work nice again. Please email or phone for more info.
